The new records set in 2025
In this publication, we have collected the notable records set by players, coaches and teams in 2025. They are listed in chronological order according to the date they were established.
In the column “Zone”, W means a World record; E, SA, Af – a record for confederation (Europe, South America, Africa).
The old record holders (the last column) are not mentioned if a former record was shared by more than two holders.
CL means Champions League for Europe and Copa Libertadores for South America, ICC – International Club Competitions.
The “Number” column indicates the status of a record at the end of 2025.
Few players set multiple records inside the year. Cristiano Ronaldo took over the world record for most “full internationals” from Soh Chin Ann and another one for most goals in World Cup Qualification from Carlos “Pescadito” Ruiz.
Lionel Messi became the best assistant in national teams’ football. His duo with Sergio Busquets is now the pair with most top level games played together.
Erling Haaland set two longest scoring runs: in World Cup Qualification overall and in national team for Europe (both his records can be extended).
