WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS CUP - ARSENAL

 

For the first time in history, the champion clubs from each of the six continental confederations played the new annualy competing FIFA Women’s Champions Cup !

Arsenal became so the first ever winner of this new competition, beating Corinthians after extra time at Arsenal Stadium. Goals from Olivia Smith and Lotte Wubben-Moy put Arsenal twice ahead against the Brazilian side, who came back on both occasions with Gabi Zanotti and Vic Albuquerque. Australian Catlin Foord scored the winning goal in the extra time to create a piece of history.

Auckland United from New Zealand was eliminated in the first round by Chinese Wuhan Jiangda, who was beaten by Moroccan club AS Far. Arsenal eliminated AS Far 6-0 and Corinthians booked the place in final by beating US club Gotham. Gotham won the third place game against AS Far before the final, where Arsenal made History.
