500 GOALS FOR KARIM BENZEMA

Karim Benzema: 500 goals!

Karim Benzema has reached on 30 August a remarkable milestone in the game for Al Ittihad vs Al Okhdood (5-2) where he stood out with a hat-trick.
The 37-year old Frenchman scored the 500th goal at top level in his career (it was his 2nd of 3 goals in the game).
He took nearly 20 years for this feat, starting from the very first goal he scored on 6 December 2005 in the Champions League for Olympique Lyon vs Rosenborg.
His current amount (501) is made up of 66 goals for Lyon, 354 for Real Madrid, 44 for Al Ittihad and 37 for France.
Benzema is the 26th striker in the world football history to reach 500 top level goals (letting aside Helmchen, Quill and Date who amassed their goals mostly at modest regional level though formally considered the first tier in their countries).
The last who did it before Benzema were Luis Suarez and Robert Lewandowski (both in 2021).
Now, there are again 5 active members of the “Club 500+” like it was in the 2-year spell between 2021 and 2023 when Zlatan Ibrahimovic was not yet retired.
It seems that every next year of this decade will bring a new member (or two) of the “Club”. The estimated “plan” of reaching 500 goals looks as follows:
2026 – Harry Kane,
2027 – Kylian Mbappe,
2028 – Neymar,
2029 – Mohamed Salah, Romelu Lukaku,
2030 - Erling Haaland.
