WORLD CUP RECORDS (Part 12) - PLAYER WITH MOST TITLES

Picture : The "King" Pelé is the leader !

Player with most world champion titles: Pelé

*“The King” Pelé still towers over all other football stars of all time, being the only three-time world champion (1958, 1962, 1970) and also the only one to win the World Cups with a span of 12 years.

*Other 20 players have become world champions twice. However, 9 of them spent at least one of the victorious tournaments in the reserve (three did not enter the pitch at all in both cases). Such double-champions are highlighted in green in the table.

*Brazilians make the lion's share of multiple world champions (16). The list also includes 4 Italians and one Argentinean (Passarella).

*Cafu is the only player in World Cup history to appear in three finals: 1994, 1998 and 2002. (Pelé appeared in only two finals having missed that of 1962 through injury).

*Mário Zagallo is another person (apart from Pelé) to win World Cup 3 times: twice as player (1958, 1962) and once as head coach (1970).
