IFFHS - 07/07/2021 - EURO 2020 STATISTICS - SEMI FINAL

Denmark and England - Eriksen in all minds.

*This edition of Euro established the new record on the number of extra-times (7). In the history of major tournaments, only the 1990 and 2014 World Cup  editions had more games going to extra-time (8 each).

*It was already 5th case in the history of Euro with both semifinals having extra-times (after 1976, 1984, 1996, 2000).

*Simon Kjaer’s (Denmark) own goal increased the total number of own goals on this Euro to incredible 11; two more than all the previous editions combined.

*England have finally reached its first ever European Championship final.

*England have reached their first major tournament final in 55 years, since winning the 1966 World Cup (also on home ground). It's the longest gap between final appearances for any European team in the history of major tournaments.

*Harry Kane increased his tally in the Euro 2020 (including qualification) to 16 goals equalling the record of Cristiano Ronaldo on goals in a single edition (CR7 reached this mark earlier this tournament).

*Harry Kane is now England's joint highest goal-scorer in major tournaments (World Cup and Euro) with Gary Lineker (both have 10 goals).

*Harry Kane became the first ever player to miss an extra-time penalty in the Euro history.

*Kane is also the second player to score from rebound after missing a penalty in the game of Euro (the first was Alioski from North Macedonia).

*Mikkel Damsgaard has scored the first direct free kick goal of the Euro 2020.

*England is the 2nd team in the history of Euro with 5 consecutive clean sheets. This series was broken in the semifinal game vs Denmark. The record of longest clean sheet series belongs to Spain: 7 games in Euros 2012 and 2016.

*Jordan Pickford (England) has finished his series without conceding on this Euro at 479 minutes. This is 5th longest series in the history of competition, after Van der Sar (594), Casillas (509), Zoff (494) and Neuer (491).

*Denmark's goal was the first scored against England in all its games since March, ending a run of 691 minutes without conceding for the Three Lions.

*Jordan Pickford has set the new record for an England goalkeeper for most minutes without conceding (749 minutes), overtaking Gordon Banks' 720 minutes set between May and July 1966.

*Chelsea is the only club to have at least one representative for each of the semi-finalists of Euro 2020. For Denmark it is defender Andres Christensen, for England defender Ben Chilwell and midfielder Mason Mount, for Spain defender Cesar Azpilicueta and for Italy midfielder Jorginho.
