Football world mourns IFFHS 4 times World Referee Sándor Puhl

 

IFFHS World’s Best Referee 1994,1995,1996 and 1997, Hungarian Sándor Puhl, who officiated in such historic events as the 1994 FIFA World Cup final and the 1997 UEFA Champions League final, has passed away at the age of 65.

Sandor Puhl began his great refereeing career in 1984 and became very quickly one of the Best and most respected referees in the World. His performances and his personnaity allowed him to be voted as the world's best referee four times in a row between 1994 and 1997 by the IFFHS. Only Pierluigi Collina (6 Awards) won more IFFHS Trophies ! 



 

He directed the 1994 World Cup final between Brazil and Italy in Los Angeles, and also the 1997 Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Juventus. After his retirement, he held different positions in the Hungarian Football Federation before being since 2010 the vice president of the refereeing committee.
