Champions League statistics: league stage, round 3 (October 22)

*Matchday 3 became the highest-scoring in the UCL history with 71 goals in 18 games (despite 3 goalless draws), surpassing the mark of 67 goals set the previous season (Matchday 5) and equalled on the Matchday 1 of the current campaign.

*English sides (six) scored 19 goals on this matchday: the most ever by a nation's clubs in a single matchday.

Chelsea vs Ajax 5-1

*Ajax have conceded 5+ goals in a Champions League match for the second time, after a 1-6 defeat to Napoli in October 2022.
In European Cup times (before 1992) it happened once on 22 October 1980 at Bayern Munich (1-5 defeat).

*Ajax have conceded 4 goals in the first half of a major European match for the first time since February 1958 (against Vasas in the European Cup).

*Chelsea have scored 4 goals in the first half of a Champions League match for the first time since October 2011 (vs Genk).

*Chelsea became the first team in Champions League history to see 3 different teenagers score for them in a single match: Marc Guiu (aged 19), Estêvão (18) and Tyrique George (19).

*Chelsea are also the first Premier League team to have 3 different teenage scorers in any competition since 1992-93.

*Estêvão is now Chelsea's youngest ever goal-scorer in the Champions League (at 18 years 181 days).

*Estêvão became the third youngest penalty scorer in UEFA Champions League history, after Bojan Krkic (18 years 90 days in 2008) and Lamine Yamal who did it also this UCL matchday (18 years 100 days).

*Marc Guiu became one of 4 players to score Champions League goals for 2 different teams as a teenager (also for Barcelona), along with Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland and George Ilenikhena.

Real Madrid vs Juventus 1-0

*It was the 22nd meeting between these opponents in the European Cup/Champions League; only Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid has been played more often (28 times).

*Juventus have not won any of their last 7 matches across all competitions (5 draws, 2 losses): their longest winless run Bianconeri since April-May 2009 (the end of Claudio Ranieri's tenure, with 8 winless matches in a row in that case).

*Kylian Mbappé's streak of scoring in 11 consecutive matches (for Real Madrid and France) has ended.

*Kenan Yildiz became Juventus' youngest starting captain in a Champions League match at 20 years 171 days.
He surpassed Alessandro Del Piero who captained Juve in the UCL in September 1998 at 23 years 325 days.

Bayern vs Club Brugge 4-0

*Bayern Munich became the first Bundesliga club in history to start a season with 12 competitive wins.
In Europe's top 5 leagues, only Milan produced a longer winning streak at the start of the season in 1992-93 (13).

*Harry Kane has scored in 10 consecutive matches (for club and country) for the first time in his professional career.

*Kane has scored 20 goals in 12 games for Bayern Munich in all competitions in 2025-26. He is the first player to reach the 20-goal mark this season with a club in the 10 major leagues in official competitions.

*Lennart Karl became Bayern Munich's youngest goalscorer (at 17 years 242 days), in Champions League, breaking Jamal Musiala's record.
Karl is now also the youngest German UCL goalscorer ever.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Liverpool 1-5

*Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike is the first player to score both for and against Eintracht Frankfurt in major European competitions.

Sporting Lisbon vs Marseille 2-1

*Marseille have lost 12 of their last 13 away games in the Champions League.

*French clubs have won only 1 of their 23 away games against Portuguese clubs in the Champions League excluding qualifying (5 draws, 17 losses).
The only away victory for a French team against a Portuguese team in the Champions League was just Marseille’s at Sporting on 12 October 2022 (2-0).

*Igor Paixão became the first player to score 3 goals in his first 3 Champions League games with Marseille since Didier Drogba in 2003 (5 goals).

Monaco vs Tottenham 0-0

*It was Tottenham’s first 0-0 in any competition in 2.5 years (since March 2023).

*Monaco attempted 23 shots: their highest total without scoring in a Champions League match.

Galatasaray vs Bodo/Glimt 3-1

*Galatasaray have won back-to-back Champions League games for the first time since December 2012 (when they have 3 wins in a row).

*Victor Osimhen became the first ever Galatasaray player to score in 7 consecutive games in major European competitions, breaking Burak Yilmaz's club record of 6 scoring games (during the 2012-13 UCL campaign).

*Osimhen is the first Galatasaray player to score 2 goals in the first half of a Champions League match.

Athletic Bilbao vs Qarabag 3-1

*For the first time Athletic haven't lost in the Champions League after being behind (0-1).

*Leandro Andrade’s goal for Qarabag at 48 seconds is the fastest conceded by Athletic in the Champions League, surpassing Jan Sørensen's (Rosenborg) goal at 1 minute 25 seconds in 1998-99.

*A bit oddly, of the last 14 teams to score in the first minute of a Champions League match, only 4 have won.

*Athletic became the first Spanish club to win a Champions League match after conceding a goal in the opening minute.

*Athletic have never scored with a shot from outside the box in a Champions League match before. Now, they scored all 3 goals with long-range shots.
In this Champions League campaign, only other team with 3 long-range goals in same match is PSV Eindhoven (vs Napoli, 6-2, on 21 October).

*Two of these long-range goals were Gorka Guruzeta’s who scored them by both feet.
The last player to achieve the similar feat was Lionel Messi on 16 April 2019, for Barcelona against Manchester United.

*Guruzeta is the 4th Athletic player (and the first in almost 70 years) to score 2+ goals in a match in the Champions League/European Cup, after José Luis Artetxe (hat-trick in 1956), Merodio (1956) and Ignacio Uribe (1957).

Atalanta vs Slavia Prague 0-0

*Slavia extended their winless run in UCL to 14 matches; they have not won a game in the competition since September 2007.

*Slavia lost 9 of their previous 10 matches against Italian opponents.
