THE UNBEATEN STREAKS

The year of attack on unbeaten streaks in the top 5 leagues

This year, four of Europe's top five leagues have challenged the league's record for the longest unbeaten streak. In three cases, the record stood, and in one, it was broken.

*In the Bundesliga, Jérôme Boateng's record of 56 consecutive unbeaten games for Bayern from 2012 to 2014 was seriously threatened by Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukáš Hrádecký. He stopped in March at 54 games, falling just two steps short of his target.

*In the Premier League, Rodri has come very close to Sol Campbell's record of 56 games for Arsenal from 2002 to 2004. Before he suffered a serious injury early last season, the Manchester City midfielder had a 52-game unbeaten streak.
After missing almost the entire season, he made his debut at the very end on 20 May, playing 7 minutes in a 3-1 win against Bournemouth, bringing Rodri one step closer to the record. But his first appearance of the 2025-26 season, on 23 August, ended his streak, as his team lost 0-2 to Tottenham.

*In La Liga, Dani Carvajal had a long unbeaten streak (38 games for Real Madrid) before his grave injury. Upon his return to the field, he managed to extend it, but only for 5 games.
The stumbling block for him was the Madrid derby, in which Los Blancos were routed by Atlético Madrid 5-2. With eventual 43 games at his tally, Carvajal took only joint 8th position in the streak rankings. He was still a long way off Andrés Iniesta's record of 55 games.

*And only in Ligue 1 did the hunt for Marquinhos's record (48 games for PSG from 2014 to 2016) end successfully. Two of his current team-mates, Fabián Ruiz (51) and Vitinha (50), managed to surpass it in April.

*Serie A remained a kind of island of calm in this turbulent environment. There, the record for the longest unbeaten run is set so high (Roberto Donadoni, 64 games) that it is unlikely anyone will be able to approach it in the foreseeable future.
