UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2025 - Quarter Final 2
Sweden - England 2-2 (2-3 after penalties)
- Reigning champions England advanced into the Euro 2025 semi final with a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout victory over Sweden, whose 15 match unbeaten run came to end since July 2024.
- Sweden's goalkeeper Jennifer Falk stopped 4 penalties in the shootout series ! It was not enough for Sweden to win, her teammates were not efficient. England's Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton stopped 3 penalties, it was enough for England !
- Captain Kosovare Aslani scored her 50th goal for Sweden in her 202th international game.
- Stina Blackstenius made an amazing performance with goal and an assist, allowing Sweden to lead 2-0. They played against her Arsenal teammates Leah Williamson and Alessia Russo.
- It was the last game for Sweden's coach Peter Gerharsson, who retired after 8 years with the national team and two semi finals in Euro 2022 and World Cup 2023.
- Subbed on in the 78th minute, England was destined for the Euro's exit 2-0, but Chloe Kelly changed the game ! She assists Lucy Bronze one minute after her entry and two minutes after gave the equalizer to Michelle Agyemong ! And she scored also one of the 3 winning penalties ! A super sub !
- Captain Leah Williamson was forced to let her teammates without her leadership due to an injury and will maybe be missed in the semi final like the winning duo 2022 with Millie Bright (not at the Euro 2025).
- England reached the final 4 and will face Italy next Tuesday in Geneva for the first semi final.
