FIFA U17 WOMEN’S WORLD CUP – SPAIN DEFEND THE TITLE !

Spain defended their FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title after beating Colombia 1-0 in the final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai

Despite dominating possession, Spain were frustrated by a resolute Colombian side until substitutes Paula Partido and Laia Martret combined to force an own-goal from Ana Guzman in the 82nd minute. If the Spaniards had 70% of possession in the first half, the South Americans, however, pressed Spain high up the pitch led by captain Linda Caicedo. Colombia matched Spain in attack having six attempts to Spain’s seven. After the goal, Spain had the possibility to double : Martret struck the upright in the 90th minute while Vicky Lopez saw her attempt just float over the crossbar in stoppage time. Spain joined so North Korea in being two-time champions and are the only team to have defended their title.

The two best Players of the Tournament, Vicky Lopez and Linda Caicedo won the Golden Ball and the Silber Ball. Colombian Linda Caicedo won also the Bronze Boot, completing a fantastic year 2022 !
