Statistics on Champions League final

Real Madrid's last defeat in a European Cup final occurred in 1981, from Liverpool (0:1), and that game also took place in Paris.

Thibaut Courtois was the man of the final ! Here his save before Mohamed Salah.

*The named Real Madrid streak is 2nd biggest such series among club champions in all 6 confederations, conceding only to Auckland City in Oceania (see the ranking below).

*Real Madrid increased their wins in the European Cup/Champions League to 14; it’s world record among all 6 confederations and twice as many as any other side in the history of the competition.
All English clubs have collected the same amount of wins (14) combined as Real Madrid alone.

*Real Madrid have surpassed Barcelona as the club with the most official titles in the history of Spanish football: 97 against 96.
On the number of international titles (now 29) Madrid haven’t competitors worldwide.

*It was 9th match between Liverpool and Real Madrid in European Cup/Champions League. Liverpool have won all first 3 of them (between 1981 and 2009) and were winless in the next 6 (1 draw and 5 losses).

*For Liverpool, it was 3rd final game this season (after two domestic caps) and still goal-less one. For these 3 finals combined, The Reds have had as many as 61 shots (17 of them on target) and no goals!

*Real Madrid fielded for the final 4 players with 100+ appearances in the Champions League (Benzema, Kroos, Modric and Alaba); this never happened in the finals before.

*As many as 8 Real Madrid players (Bale, Benzema, Carvajal, Casemiro, Kroos, Marcelo, Modric and Nacho) have won Champions League for the 5th time; 7 of them achieved all wins with Madrid and Kroos won his first with Bayern (2013) before moving to Madrid.
Francisco Gento (passed away January this year) remains the only one in the whole history of the main European competition with 6 wins – though a crowd of his runner-ups is massively growing.

*Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), awarded the best player of the final, made 9 saves – this is the new record for goalkeepers in a single Champions League final surpassing 8 saves by Van der Sar (Manchester United) in 2011 vs Barcelona and 8 by Alisson (Liverpool) in 2019 vs Tottenham.

*Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) made 6 shots on target; also the record for a player in a single UCL final.
